Trealayne Holsteins, located in the scenic rolling hills of Tuscarawas County, has been the pride of the Wayne and Steve Specht family since the 1950s, when Wayne purchased the 150-acre farmstead and established the "Trealayne" prefix.
The herd currently consists of 80 milking cows, which are milked in a 74-cow tie-stall barn that was built in 1981, the same year that Wayne and Steve joined forces as full partners. Steve met the former Michele Deam while both were students at Ohio State; they married in 1978 and raised Allison, Annie, and Adam as proud Holstein breeders - and Buckeyes!
The "Trealayne" prefix has come to mean quality in regards to both type and production. In 2000, Trealayne Elton Sapphire
(EX-94-EX-MS-2E-GMD-DOM) was nominated as one of the nation's best Ohio-bred cows, and she also holds the honor of being Emprise Bell Elton's highest-scored daughter. Trealayne Adan Jackie (VG-87-EX-MS), the herd's oldest cow at 15 years of age, lead Tuscarawas County in lifetime milk production as of 2007. Trealayne is currently under the management of Steve Specht and Nathan Davenport of Painter-Creek Holsteins, with help from Neil and Jennifer Deam of Jenneil Holsteins. With a team like ours, Trealayne Holsteins is truly a family affair! |
